Orioles’ Tillman wins 13th in 2-1 decision over Rays
Bundy allowed three homers in his 38 innings out of the bullpen.

Baltimore Orioles got off to a good start to the second half of the Major League Baseball season, beating their division rival, the Tampa Rays, in back-to-back games July 15-16. “And then his last three or four [were good] so it was time for the next step”. He’ll learn. He’s competitive. Teammate Kevin Gausman continues to struggle with that issue and he has thrown 360 innings at the big-league level. “You learn and you go forward”.
With Archer also throwing 7 1/3 innings Friday night, this was the fourth time this season that the Rays have had starters complete seven innings in consecutive games, and the third time involving Moore.
That game was also started by Tillman, actually, so here’s hoping that the Orioles can pull off the same result tonight.
After Erasmo Ramirez went two scoreless innings for the Rays, AL All-Star Alex Colome got the final three outs to get his 20th save in as many chances. It’s all a part of the process.
Longoria hit his second homer of the day – a solo shot off Odrisamer Despaigne in the eighth – to give him his 17th career multihomer game. “More times than not, giving up four, we’ll be in that game a little bit more than we were today”.
“Considering he just had a baby and he hasn’t had much sleep the last two or three days, I thought about not bringing him in there, but those guys need to pitch”, Showalter said of Givens.
“I felt like I threw the ball well, but not well enough”, Archer said.
One of Bundy’s biggest improvements this season has been utilizing his changeup to keep the ball on the ground – and in the ballpark – but he induced just one ground-ball out on the afternoon. “First major league start for anybody is going to be exciting”, Bundy said. They still do not know what they are going to get from veteran Yovani Gallardo and they can’t be thinking Ubaldo Jimenez will suddenly morph into his 2013 second-half self. “I wanted to see how his approach was first without getting too deep”. With the Orioles (53-37) leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria turned on a 97-mph fastball on a 1-0 count, sending it an estimated 419 feet into the left-field stands for his 31st career homer against the Orioles.
Schoop has 10 winning RBIs this season, and since June 1, he is hitting.351 with 21 extra-base hits (14 doubles, seven homers) and 25 RBIs. The 28-year-old suffered through two rough starts to end June, including a no-decision against Tampa Bay when he permitted six runs on 10 hits in five frames. “We’re trying”, Moore said. “It doesn’t really bother me any”.
Bundy was carrying a strong fastball that sat at 95-97 and hit 98 miles per hour on the stadium radar gun multiple times.

The Rays, who have lost eight straight, did not have a hit after the fourth inning. He didn’t give up many hits, but when they did, it seemed like they hit the barrel pretty hard. “But Mike’s been a contributor with very limited pitching experience since we got him past year and he’s been a big part of it”. “We’re just waiting for tomorrow to get here”.
