The vast majority of the Orlando shooting GoFundMe campaign’s donations have been donations of $1,000 or less, with so many average citizens wanting to do something in the wake of the worst mass shooting in USA history. “Equality Florida is working with local organizations – who are also helping to raise funds – to ensure the money is distributed properly”.
Forty-nine club patrons and the gunman were killed and 53 wounded in the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States. Less than 24 hours after setting a new goal, the donations climbed in at $1.6 million. On Tuesday, the group raised its goal to $5 million.
Ida Eskamani, development director for Equality Florida, said victims will receive a portion of the money in about seven months, though the organization will attempt to deploy funds immediately for emergency situations.
“There should be only one fund for victims, because the minute there is more than one fund … you lack a central device for distributing the money”, he said.
In addition to the GoFundMe campaign, people can safely give money directly to the NCVC at NationalCompassionFund.org.
Apart from the GoFundMe initiative, donations can also be safely made directly to NCVC at NationalCompassionFund.org. “We’re trying to figure out the legal mechanisms to get aid directly to the victims’ families, not just to – not for profits that are going to help them down the road”, Dyer said. Florida’s attorney general is also investigating the more than 100 crowd funding campaigns that have popped up in the days since the tragedy. The campaign was started by Equality Florida, which is the biggest LGBT rights group in Florida.
Nadine Smith is overwhelmed by the response to the GoFundMe campaign Equality Florida set up to support the victims of Sunday’s massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Singer-songwriter Jeffree Star gave $20,000.
Two years before that, donors raised a combined $US1.6 million over the course of two campaigns for Jeff Bauman and Celeste and Sydney Corcoran, all three of whom were severely injured during the Boston Marathon bombing.

Since the California-based site was launched in May 2010, over $2 billion has been raised on GoFundMe to benefit individuals. “So many folks in this tragedy are from the Latino community and their families don’t live here in Orlando; they don’t even live in the country”. Have you already donated?
