Oscar Awards 2016 Winners List Live Updates 88th Academy Awards Complete List
Previous South African winners at the Oscars include director Gavin Hood for the movie Tsotsi, winning Best Foreign Language film in 2006, and producer Eric Abraham for the Polish film Ida, which won Best Foreign Language film past year. Meanwhile Fury Road also missed out on the Best Picture Oscar, which went to Spotlight in something of a boilover.

Alicia Vikander won best supporting actress for her performance in “The Danish Girl” at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Big wins may have gone to Room, The Revenant, and Spotlight at the 88 Academy Awards, but Mad Max: Fury Road championed the show by winning 6 Oscars from their 10 nominations. It has also won the award for Best sound editing beating some of the big names.
However, in a mild surprise, Open Road Films grabbed the biggest award of the evening – best picture – for the journalism drama “Spotlight”. Now that DiCaprio has his Oscar, is it too much to ask that he no longer play characters who die or struggle with insane ex-wives or are paralyzed by obsessive-compulsive disorder?
Sam Smith dedicated his Oscar to the LGBT community… Rylance saluted his fellow nominees and subtly alluded to the current controversy by saying, “I don’t know how they separated the five of us from all the other supporting actors who are making films at the moment”.
Best documentary short subject: “Body Team 12”, “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness”, “Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah”, “Chau, Beyond the Lines”, “Lasy Day of Freedom”. Costume, production and makeup and hair design were all on-point, and helped to usher the series’ signature post-apocalyptic look into 21st century film.
