Talking about his best actor nomination for The Revenant, the 41-year-old actor said that it does feel great, especially when someone works on something for this long a period of time, reported E! However, he hasn’t ever been able to hold the golden Oscar statuette in his hands, even though he has been nominated for a total of five times for the same.

For best actress, “Carol” star Cate Blanchett and “Room” star Brie Larson, who portrayed a kidnapped mother living in captivity with her son, are seen as the favorites in a category that also includes veteran British actress Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years“).

“Fury Road” will vie with “The Big Short”, “Bridge of Spies“, “Brooklyn“, “The Martian”, “Room” and “Spotlight” for best picture, the highest honor in the film industry.

Fury Road boss George Miller is up against The Revenant’s Alejandro Iñárritu for Best Director.

It appeared that everyone, including Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, got in on the action. The actor was first nominated for an Academy Award 22-years ago, for his supporting role of Arnie Grape in 1994’s “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. USA Today reports that this year’s host, Chris Rock, released a new promo for the awards show calling it “The White BET Awards”. While the Academy might have an excuse, some find it ridiculous that movies like Sicario, Beasts of No Nation, Concussion, Tangerine, and Straight Outta Compton could have easily been included in the list. “But this is not to take away from the greatness (of the films nominated)”.

Matt Damon plays NASA astronaut Mark Watney in “The Martian”, which has been nominated for six Oscars.

Gizmodo reported that the Academy can’t still get things right when it comes to dealing with how white their nominees are.
