The correctional services spokeman did not provide any detail on the injuries, citing medical privacy concerns.
The athlete is serving a six-year sentence for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
It is reported that blades were subsequently found in Pistorius’ cell during a search which was conducted yesterday afternoon.
Convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius underwent treatment at a hospital on August 6 after sustaining injuries to his wrists while in confinement at a South African prison.
Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times through a toilet cubicle door in his home in the pre-dawn hours of Valentine’s Day, 2013.
Further investigation and inquiries regarding his injuries are underway as prison officials said Saturday.
Pistorius’s family declined to comment, referring inquiries to the department. Pistorius was taken to the Pretoria Kalaforg hospital, where the doctor wrapped up his wounds and said it was just a minor cut.
But the verdict was later upgraded to murder and he is now serving a six-year sentence.
The 29-year-old double-amputee summoned warders to his cell in the hospital wing of his Pretoria prison with a distress call.
The final two shots from a 9mm pistol hit her in the head and she died in Pistorius’ arms.
Pistorious served an initial one-year sentence for manslaughter, although the conviction was later overturned and he was then convicted of murder.
Pistorius – who won gold medals at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympics – was originally found guilty of culpable homicide.
