He said the former track star was taken back to his Pretoria prison cell on Saturday, and an investigation is underway.

“The official report is that he [Pistorius] made a call [for help] after falling off his bed”, said correctional services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.

“As a policy principle we can not further discuss a particular offender’s personal condition in the public domain”, Mr Wolela said.

“He slipped in his cell and injured himself, nothing serious”, he said, adding that suggestions of a suicide attempt were “completely untrue and sensational”. Pistorius’ defense team suggested those reports were exaggerated.

In July, the culpable homicide verdict was overruled and he was convicted of murder, at which point he was served a six year jail sentence.

Pistorius, the first-ever double amputee to compete in the Olympics, rose to global fame as renown sprinter who ran on carbon-fiber prosthetic blades.

After first being found guilty of culpable homicide, equivalent to manslaughter, an appeal court upgraded his conviction to murder in December past year.

Pistorius was sentenced to six years in prison for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2014. Later, it emerged out that he intentionally shot her after a heated argument as neighbors told the police that they heard noises and screaming from the house that night.
