Manelisi Wolela, a spokesman for the prison service, said the athlete had “minor injuries on his wrists”.

It was reported that blades were found in the former athlete’s cell and that Pistorius claimed he had sustained the injuries after falling out of bed.

Two warders with knowledge of the hospital section said blades were subsequently found in Pistorius’ cell during a search yesterday afternoon. “As a policy. we can not further discuss a particular offender’s personal condition.in public”. During his resentencing, a nurse working in the prison hospital testified that inmates’ medication was strictly monitored through the prison hospital.

Numerous attempts have been made to get comment from correctional services, who could not confirm nor deny that Pistorius had been rushed to hospital on Saturday.

However, the BBC quoted a report saying that Pistorius had injuries to his wrists. Pistorius’ defense team suggested those reports were exaggerated.

Prosecutors believe he killed her intentionally after an argument, and said they would appeal his six-year sentence, which they called “shockingly lenient”.
