Selznick, whose book The Invention of Hugo Cabret was made by Martin Scorsese as Hugo, wrote the Wonderstruck screenplay himself.

Wonderstruck tells the intertwined story of two deaf children named Ben and Rose. Ben, a small boy growing up in Minnesota in the late 1970s, travels to NY City following the death of his mother after a mysterious note appears. Moore, who won the Oscar in February for Still Alice, got an Oscar nomination when she worked with Haynes on Far From Heaven. Meanwhile in 1927, Rose is locked out of her house in New Jersey and decides to use the time to go find her idol, film actress Lillian Mayhew, in the Big Apple. “In doing so, the performances he’s drawn from his actresses – Julianne Moore in the first two titles and Kate Winslet in the lattermost – have been amongst the very finest of their careers”, we remarked in our review of Carol earlier this year. Killer and Haynes teamed on “Carol”, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
Wonderstruck will be produced by Haynes’ frequent collaborator Christine Vachon, along with Pam Koffler and John Sloss.
