The Pakistani filmmaker was among the nominated documentarians on hand for a Wednesday event at the motion picture academy honoring this year’s documentary Oscar nominees ahead of Sunday’s ceremony.

That’s why the Academy Awards are still an all-star destination for advertisers.

At the 2005 Oscars, Rock went to LA’s Magic Johnson Theatre and interviewed moviegoers in the all-black – with the exception of Albert Brooks – audience, asking them what they’d seen and loved that year.

Although McDaniel got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she still faced discrimination after her death.

DiCaprio (“The Revenant”) and Brie Larson (“Room”) have swept the acting categories at other awards shows this season and are favored to win on Sunday. According to GoldDerby.com, an Oscars predictor website, Lawrence is the least likely to win Best Actress with her odds at 80-to-1. Similarly, there was a big ratings bump in 2004, when The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, that year’s top-grossing film, won best picture.

Best actor: There’s really no question here: If the victor isn’t Leonardo DiCaprio, it will be the biggest shocker since Roberto Benigni won for “Life Is Beautiful” in 1999.

“It’s not the academy-it’s what the academy represents”, Jennifer Warren, a 74-year-old actress, director, Academy member, and chair of the Alliance of Women Directors told the Times. (Birdman, last year’s victor, was also his.) Voters will be keenly aware of this, but the wells of support for this film run deep: with 12 nominations, it’s by far the most broadly adored of this year’s serious contenders.

The Academy Awards celebrate the best in film, but the ceremony isn’t exactly a popularity contest. The show will air on ABC.

The lack of diversity again reignited the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, sparked a “Saturday Night Live” skit highlighting how actors of color are overlooked, and led to calls for a boycott of the awards show. I predict he will win for the second year in a row as he and George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” are the only two movies on the list that have unique directing styles compared to the other three nominees.

The media mogul said he sympathizes with the frustrations of the people calling for a boycott of the Oscars over the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
