Oscars 2016: Fans pick ‘The Revenant’ over ‘Spotlight’ for Best Picture
Leonardo DiCaprio will finally get his first Oscar.

Just as Donald Trump will nearly certainly win the GOP presidential nomination whether the ad industry likes it or not, so Leonardo DiCaprio is the overwhelming favorite to score his first Best Actor statue for Alejandro González Iñárritu drama The Revenant, aka Berenstain Bears The Movie. The film, which centers on the Boston Globe reporters who broke the story about the rampant molestation and protection of guilty priests in the Catholic Church, wound up winning Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice Awards and took home the SAG Award for Best Ensemble. All 10 of them are true headscratchers.
Clockwise from left: Twenty-First Century Fox Inc.is likely to benefit from the possible Oscar wins of “The Revenant”, “Brooklyn” and “The Martian”.
But in the 88 years of the Oscars, there have also been quite a few historic “Firsts” that broke social barriers well before the government or society at large could claim to do the same.
Filmed entertainment accounted for almost a third of total second-quarter revenue at Fox, which also runs cable, television and other entertainment operations.
Should Have Won: For playing a deranged (but possibly brilliant) mental patient in Terry Gilliams Twelve Monkeys.
It was only towards the end of previous year that Spotlight’s real competition pulled up to the starting grid.
Best Picture: This is a fun year to pick the best picture victor.
This photo released by Twentieth Century Fox shows shows Leonardo DiCaprio wearing a costume designed by Jacqueline West in a scene from the film, “The Revenant”.
No ethnic minority actor or actress has been nominated for the second year running, sparking an outcry against the Academy and a social media campaign under the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.
Insiders say the 51-year-old will tackle the controversy head-on, and has completely reworked an opening monologue that could prove embarrassing for the Academy’s voting members, overwhelmingly white men.

Between handicapping sites, wins from various guilds and simple Oscar chatter, predictions harden fairly quickly into conventional wisdom. Chris Rock will host the #WhiteBETAwards. Here’s what to expect at Sunday night’s show.
