British star David Harewood has said Academy Award nominees should attend “in blackface” to highlight the issue of diversity.
A look back at the 11 accomplished actors who have been nominated for an Oscar twice in one year. From the distinctly muscular thriller that it was to the bold performances of Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Emilio del Toro, it’s completely shocking that the film didn’t get a nomination.

Among the many snubs, oversights and unpleasant surprises in the mix is the nearly total absence of recognition for Sicario, one of the year’s best movies.
“Maybe if there’s 50 great films by black filmmakers, they will get three nominations”, said Hudlin, who produced “Django Unchained”. GLAAD noted that the number of series regular characters who are black on broadcast TV is the highest it’s been since GLAAD began measuring such data.

That it didn’t get a Best Picture nomination left a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths, with many citing it as this year’s glaring omission. The field of supporting actors has proven to be the most fruitful for people of colour, who have won 17 of a possible 88 awards, compared to just three for screenwriters.
