The award for Best Director went to Alejandro G. Iñárritu for The Revenant.

Breaking update: Mark Rylance won best supporting actor for “Bridge of Spies”.

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander won the supporting actress Oscar for transgender movie “The Danish Girl” while documentary “Amy”, about the late and troubled British pop star Amy Winehouse was also a victor.

Leonardo DiCaprio received the first Oscar of his career winning Best Actor for “The Revenant”.

Despite the few losses, Fury Road is now Australia’s best performing film at the Oscars.

Mad Max dominated the evening’s technical categories, with wins for Costume Design, Production Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

What delighted most at this year’s ceremony, however, was Leonardo DiCaprio’s Leading Actor win, something pretty much universally accepted as overdue. Some speculated that his reaction may have been prompted because “The Revenant” was up for the same award, and he was angry his movie didn’t win.

The award was given to delivered editor Margaret Sixel, which also marks her first Academy Award.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” is set in a future desert wasteland where gasoline and water are scarce commodities and features Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Zoe Kravitz, Abbey Lee and Courtney Eaton.

Margaret Sixel won for Best Film Editing.

10-time Oscar nominee Jenny Beavan won for Best Costume Design.

And Adam McKay and Charles Randolph took the adapted screenplay Oscar for “The Big Short”-another best picture contender”.

The Best sound mixing award also goes to Mad Max: Fury Road. Larson recently burst onto the big screen with roles in indie movies, such as Short Term 12, and blockbusters, like 21 Jump Street and Trainwreck.

“I know we’re going to make this change”, he said on the red carpet. “When your grandma’s swinging from a tree, it’s really hard to care about best documentary foreign short”, Rock said.

“You realize if they nominated hosts, I wouldn’t even get this job, you’d all be watching Neil Patrick Harris right now”, he joked early on.
