#OscarsSoWhite: Beauty company mistakes Whoopi Goldberg for Oprah Winfrey amid diversity controversy

As stars flooded the red carpet for the Academy Awards on Sunday evening, one beauty brand chose to capitalize on all the attention with a perfectly timed observation about Oprah Winfrey’s tattoos.

Comedian Chris Rock will host the ceremony this year, his second time, and has promised a “blackout” in response to the nominee whitewash.

“We had no idea Oprah was #tatted, and we loved it. #Oscars“, it read.

“Though Goldberg’s clearly a legend, not everyone realizes that”, said Lindsey Kupfer, of Page Six, who described Goldberg as the “Girl with a Dragon Tattoo”. “Come on @TotalBeauty There are only a few of us there smh Sorry @WhoopiGoldberg”, another added. “Do better, guys. Winfrey is internationally recognizable”. It was our error, and there are no excuses.

This is not the first mistake Total Beauty made during Oscars coverage, either, according to Bustle.

The LA-based site has since deleted the tweet after being ridiculed online. Beauty website Total Beauty learned that lesson during the red carpet arrivals at the 88th annual Academy Awards.

“You gotta figure it happened in the ’50s, the ’60s, and black people did not protest. If we’re not here, then we’re really not here”.
