Fueled by a career performance from junior goalkeeper Kassidie Stade, the Oklahoma soccer team fought to a 0-0 draw in two overtimes against No. 4 West Virginia on Friday night at John Crain Field. The West Virginia Mountaineers passing assault has averaged 285.5 enclosures per game, more than the Oklahoma State Cowboys provide up through the air (177.8 YPG on average). The Cowboys led 23-9 after J.W. Walsh completed a 4-yard pass to Blake Jarwin.
On October 3, the Sooners hosted the West Virginia Mountaineers in Norman for yet another 11 a.m. kickoff. They got beat a couple of times.
A masterful first half by Glenn Spencer’s group. Offensively, the Mountaineers never got it together. He and three others had sacks. The Cowboys also held WVU to a 33.3 percent conversion rate on third down.

Those siding with the visitors in this one saw the $Oklahoma State Cowboys listed as direct losers earlier this week at Bovada. Daikiel Shorts has 12 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown. Mountaineers trailed 14-2. Coach Mike Gundy hasn’t said whether Carson or Childs will be available.
At the end of last season, Oklahoma State changed quarterbacks and have been successful since. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, is a big, strong armed quarterback that sees the field well and can throw into tight windows.

After a slow start by both offenses, which included a Mason Rudolph interception, it was the OSU defense that made the first impression.

The Mountaineers were the fifth OU opponent ranked within the top 25 of the NSCAA/Continental Tires poll this season. This seems like way too many points to hand an undefeated team ranked No. 21 in the nation. TCU survived a huge deficit to win at Kansas State, while Baylor smoked Kansas, 66-7. But it converted on 10-of-16 third and fourth downs.
You can point to first downs as one reason. On its next drive, Oklahoma scored in four plays that covered 96 yards in 1 minute, 34 seconds to go up 34-24. That won’t cut it.

Neither had a productive quarter, though. Things took a turn in the Mountaineers’ favor in the second half when Howard hit Shelton Gibson with a handsome 48-yard bomb to bring the Mountaineers within 7 points.
