University spokesperson Gary Shutt said that Coger “did not appear to be struggling” during the workout but the team noticed issues after he sat down.

National Weather Service records show the temperature at 5 p.m. Thursday was 99 with humidity at 38 percent, meaning it felt like it was 106.

Underwood and Holder addressed the media on Friday following the death of Cowboys basketball player Tyrek Coger, who collapsed Thursday afternoon after a 40-minute team workout inside Boone Pickens Stadium. The condition is commonly known as an enlarged heart. “I gotta think beyond basketball now”. “I can’t adequately address that question today about the heat and that’s certainly one of the questions we’ll ask and we’ll have a better answer than I have today down the road sometime”.

“This is the hardest couple of days I’ve ever experienced in my coaching life and making that phone call to mother, there are no words”, said OSU basketball coach Brad Underwood. Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family.

Coger was transported to Stillwater Medical Center by ambulance.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Coger told the newspaper he recuperated before starting his college career at Eastern Florida State College.

Rated as the No. 21 junior college prospect in the country by 247Sports.com, Coger originally committed to Ole Miss previous year.

“Dreams are supposed to begin here (at Oklahoma State University)”.

Our hearts go out to Coger’s family, friends, and teammates. Wall wrote: “Rest in Peace to the lil homie who always had the competitive spirt. you will be missed Tyrek”.

Wall also posted a photo of the two from the 2012 Reebok Breakout Challenge.

Sitting beside Underwood during Friday morning’s news conference, Holder tried to make sense of the tragic death.
