Osweiler leads Broncos to comeback win over Patriots

The athletic quarterback’s ability to run bootlegs and play action has opened up Gary Kubiak’s zone-based offense, which had been modified for Manning.

Osweiler and the Broncos offense gained 292 of their 433 total yards in the second half and overtime. They could seal that division with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but the Patriots may be tempted not to rush their leading receiver back with tougher, post-season games to come. And the starter, Brock Osweiler, was playing well.

Tom Brady urged the New England Patriots on Monday to use their first loss of the season as motivation, describing the upset defeat to the Denver Broncos as one of the lowest points of his career.

“I’m not really focused on how long am I going to be the starter, am I the starter, am I not the starter?”

“That’s way too many”, Kubiak said.

Brady’s third TD made it 21-7 on the first play of the fourth quarter, but Osweiler kept his poise. “Just trying to be cooperative and help you out, so if that’s a problem just let me know”. “In this league, you work, you work, you work and you never know when an opportunity is going to come or how it’s going to come”. But I haven’t thought much more than about trying to get healthy.

“Peyton was one of the most excited people in the locker room after the game on Sunday”, Osweiler said following practice Wednesday. “All the other questions and speculation, I don’t have anything for you on that”.

With Manning still in a walking boot this week and facing more arduous rehab, Kubiak said rookie Trevor Siemian remains Osweiler’s backup a week after Christian Ponder was signed as insurance. “I don’t think I’ve ever been so visibly pissed off after a loss”.

Caldwell and the rest of the Broncos ought to be oozing with confidence heading into Sunday’s matchup with 3-8 San Diego after knocking New England from the ranks of the unbeaten on Sunday.

In both cases, each team realized that it was time to move forward in another direction – good examples for the Broncos as it’s clear that Osweiler under center is what’s best for the team’s future.

Anderson, who also had four catches for 40 yards, said he was inspired by the big hits teammate Ronnie Hillman kept taking early in the game. Is he comfortable enough to go in there and battle with Trevor to be our 2? Or (quarterbacks coach) Greg Knapp may have.

“It’s so far ahead of what I’m thinking about”, Manning said.
