Our Congratulations to New Miss USA Deshauna Barber

Although Miss District of Columbia Deshauna Barber slayed her interview question at Sunday night’s Miss USA pageant to win the crown, not everyone was as lucky. Remember this gem from the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2007? This has happened third time in history and first time in 14 years.

Miss Georgia USA 2016 Emanii Davis, Miss Hawaii USA 2016 Chelsea Hardin and Miss District of Columbia USA 2016 Deshauna Barber compete in the top 3 during the 2016 Miss USA pageant at T-Mobile Arena, June 5, 2016 in Las Vegas.

Barber graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Management from Virginia State University and her hobbies include dancing and hiking.

The 26-year old Deshauna was born in Columbus, Georgia, as the daughter of an Army Master Sergeant.

Previously, Barber has said that joining the military was the “greatest decision” she has ever made and while she has not yet been deployed overseas, if President Obama asked her to fight in Iraq, she would jump at the opportunity. She and her family are true patriots.

Barber is also an IT analyst with the U.S. Department of Commerce and is a logistics commander with the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Maryland’s Fort Meade. She will now go on to compete in the Miss Universe contest later this year.

She addressed to the questions by the media with bold answers. The question was framed with Clinton’s likely status of being the first woman nominated by a major political party in the race for the White House. She further opined that women are as tough as men.

This earned her lots of cheers from the audience. “As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated”, Deshauna Barber said. It was very important to understand that gender does not limit the capacity of a person in anyway.

This Miss USA pageant was the first since the parent Miss Universe Organization and Trump, who owned it, parted ways, noted Variety. Even before the pageant, she had spoken about breaking a few taboos about women and soldiers.

She said that women can be as feminine as she could be and yet serve in the army for some really tough jobs. These are stereotypes that must be broken. It’s basically about the person.
