‘Outlander’ season 2 premiere spoilers: Finale to introduce Roger and Brianna
In short: Season 3 will be all (or at least mostly) about middle-aged Jamie and Claire.

Meanwhile, fans of the series must still look forward to the second season finale of “Outlander“, which is scheduled to air on Starz on Saturday, July 9. Those events were set in 1968.
For the sake of less timey wimey wibbly wobbly-ness, I’m going to recap the episode by time period. “It did take a while to find her, but we’re very pleased”. The editing worked exceptionally well for the story, pushing the dramatic tension and heightening emotions. The abrupt transitions between Claire’s past and present never quite came together well. With him eliminated, the battle wouldn’t happen and the Jacobite rebellion would be over.
Outlander book readers, did you hope to see the Frasers’ marking moment? But as they were ironing out the details, Dougal overheard them. Jamie’s hesitant to agree, but Colum knows Jamie understands the importance of people over the importance of fighting far more than Dougal ever wishes to. When Roger tells Claire that Gellis is leaving town, Claire blurts out that they have to stop her, though this may have dire consequences. Jamie cries. Rupert (Grant O’Rourke) finds them, so Jamie asks for a 2 hour reprieve. He didn’t despair or lose his head; he took care of business. It was like he had a “in case I’m about to die” checklist running in his head. The men on battlefield have faith their leaders are strong. Finally, he took Claire to Craigh na Dun.
Jamie wants her to go back through the stones.
Nearing the Battle of Culloden, Claire desperately tried to figure out a way to keep the impending battle from happening. Was it a necessary choice aside from the interesting effects on the story? It’s something I’ve considered again and again. Caitriona Balfe’s performance has been the best thing on the show and probably the most underrated on TV. They didn’t have to break down in sobs to illustrate the sadness.
Claire Heads Back to the Past.
“We needed to really understand both what Claire thought and what Geillis thought in this episode so we honed in on a couple of things”. It marked Claire’s first trip back there since the ’40s. Always. When you’ve grown fond of – not just the character that you’re playing, but the characters that you’re acting with and everybody, it is hard, but it’s the story that you’re telling and you want to do your best to tell it is as well as you can and that was what really informed the day when we were shooting that.
Sophie Skelton is the weakest actor on the show, but she’s up against some exquisite talent. In it, Julia Stiles plays a single mom trying to hide her secret life as an escort from her young son.
Davis teased that the relationship fans will see between Claire and Brianna onscreen is a complex and multifaceted dynamic. In 1743, when Claire and Jamie first meet, she is 27 (or, minus-175 years old, if you will) and he is 23 (though some sources put his age at 22). It’s not as taxing as it sounds when you love the material and you love what you do. “I do, but there was this man in 1746 I loved more…” So she goes to her husband whom she left behind in the future at the start of the show. And will Frank really raise her unborn child – Jamie’s child – as his own?
“There’s been this buildup for so long”, the actress said, adding that she’s nervous for Brianna’s introduction because the character she portrays on the TV series is different from the character that fans fell in love with in Gabaldon’s novel. She’s also just discovered that her Scottish love survived the Battle of Culloden.
“We had to project ahead about how many things we were going to be able to cover in that last scene”. Brianna doesn’t believe her, which is frustrating to viewers, with everything we know. Claire visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past, while Brianna and Roger bond over researching Randall family history. Roger and Brianna can hear the buzzing and finally believe her. Roger, however, was more open-minded. As they say a tearful goodbye, they verbalize what we’ve come to see over the past episodes.
Regardless, let’s pause for a moment to discuss casting. The character Roger (Richard Rankin) will make also his debut as an adult. He captures the character’s charm and slight goofiness.
It’s not just about Claire and Jamie anymore. I felt fidgety on his behalf. “She’s not running around in go-go boots, you know?”. She tells Jamie to use the yellow jasmine she had given to Collum.
Claire’s “Dragonfly in Amber” journey back to Scotland will reunite her with someone viewers will not expect. Geillis Duncan is alive and well. This spunky historian is the spitting image of her dad, only she has an American accent due to growing up in the USofA. And we saw through watery eyes that she poised to go back through the stones and find him. Another wrinkle, another layer of time travel rules. It’s not that he wants Jamie dead particularly. Claire, on the other hand, knows the extremes to which Gellis will go. She’s pregnant with their child and he says there is no place for her in 18th century Scotland any longer.

That’s all we can share for now, but get ready, Outlander fans, because this is the one episode that you absolutely cannot miss. Did you suspect who Brianna was?
