Outlook for iOS can now edit attachments with Office apps

However, the latest update will allow you to open the file from Outlook, make some edits to it in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, before pressing the back button in order for the recently edited file to be attached to your email reply automatically.

Microsoft has rolled out an update for the Office touch apps, available on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.

The number of steps required to collaborate on files sent as attachments are also reduced.

If you don’t have the other Office apps installed, Outlook still shows you previews in its simple viewer, with suggestion to download the free apps.

From now onwards any documents sent to an email address using the Outlook for iOS app will open up inside Word, PowerPoint or Excel, as long as the individual apps are installed on the device in question.

“Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents capture the bulk of the knowledge and experiences that information workers produce-strategy documents, sales presentations, contracts, market analyses, etc.-in many organizations”, the Office team explains in a new post to the Office Blogs. Many such documents are shared using Outlook.

Microsoft notes that similar functionality is coming to Outlook for Android in “the next couple of months”. Microsoft’s goal with the deeper integration is to make it easier to share and collaborate on Office documents on the go. Since Microsoft doesn’t want to share a change log, we’ll just have to dig around ourselves it seems.
