Oven suspected in Minneapolis fire that killed 3 children

A press release from the Minneapolis Fire Department stated that the call came in at 11:57 p.m. Saturday night.

A community in Minneapolis in mourning after three children were killed in a house fire.

While there’s no firm word on how the blaze started, the fire chief said the oven door was open at the time and the fire’s origin was at or near the stove. All three were under age 7, Fruetel said. The third victim was on the second floor, the fire chief said.

They had just moved into the home Saturday afternoon. “The heart of Minneapolis aches this morning for these three children”, said Mayor Betsy Hodges, who joined Fruetel at the news conference.

A warning had been issued by officials for residents to not use a cooking oven for heating.

After the fire had been extinguished, crews were able to determine that the fire possibly originated from the kitchen stove, which may have been used as a heat source. No firefighters were hurt.
