Over 100 million Android phones expected to integrate Opera Max by 2017

Downloading files such as videos and pictures are quite another story; for browsing websites, Opera Max will halve the user’s current data consumption. If Opera can beef up the security of its Opera Max app, the compression app can become a staple for smartphones across the world. “We see OEMs responding to this and stepping up to lower the barrier to mobile internet access by providing a data-optimization solution on their devices”, Opera Max head of product Sergey Lossev said. With these collaborations, the company is now expecting to get the Opera Max integrated into 100 Million smartphone by 2017.

Opera on Monday announced that it has partnered with 14 OEMs to pre-installed Opera Max data-management app on their Android devices. With these in mind, the Max app has been made to answer that problem.

Opera understood that users treasure their mobile data and it provided an app to help with that. This of course means that they have to pay extra on their bill and this might turn into a major frustration.

With less than five million installs from Google Play, Opera has been promoting the Max app within their Mini browser’s dashboard; promising its users that it will help save data that are used by other apps like Chrome and Vine instead of just having it for content viewing through the mini browser. There is increased usage of data hogging image-rich social and news apps along with video streaming. But given that data is sent to Opera servers, security will be dependent on yet another factor and that might not be a risk many will be willing to take.

The smartphone makers that have partnered with Opera are Acer, Cherry Mobile, Evercoss, Fly, Hisense, Mobiistar, Micromax, Oppo, Prestigio, Samsung, Symphony, Tecno, TWZ, and Xiaomi. Avid users of YouTube, Netflix and Instagram can see data cut by as much as 60 percent without significant effects on the quality. Opera Max also blocks apps that consume precious data in the background.

If the data- managing app developed by Opera is really able to reduce data consumption as the browser maker says it does, it really could save users a whole lot of money they now pay for the data they use that is not included in their data plan.
