“We bid you farewell, brother”, Castro called out as the other officers of the unit surrounded him, “Badge number 8193 is on a double 6”.
Dozens came together in Dallas Saturday to mourn the loss of five officers who were killed Thursday night. President Obama will travel to Dallas for the memorial and to meet with the victims’ families.
Private visitations were held for Officer Lorne Ahrens and DART Officer Brent Thompson.
The Sheriff’s Department said Ahrens worked at the stations in Lennox and Lancaster.
“Brent was a great officer”, said James Spiller, police chief of DART.
“Lorne was a big guy with an even bigger heart”, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Merrill Ladenheim said in a department Facebook post. McWaid remembers seeing Ahrens beginning his shift after a couple rounds of boxing, Ahrens’ favorite way to work out. We understand the risks and challenges faced by law enforcement officers on a daily basis and we laud the bravery and integrity of officers in Dallas who responded to yesterday’s attack. The attack also injured seven officers and two civilians.
Bringing the recruits here is one of the many ways – along with defensive tactics, physical training, and more – that Parrott said instructors are using to mold the recruits i to officers.
“To this day”, Castro said, “I don’t know how Lorne was able to make himself small enough to get in those bushes”. Photos were released from the daytime rally in Dallas, showing police officers taking friendly pictures with the protesters; the people who were protesting their line of work.
“This is something I always wanted to be”, Sammy Robles said. “Like a anxious father, he would yell because he cared, not out of anger”.
Ahrens transferred to Dallas in 2002 and worked his way up to senior corporal, according to the union. This was a man who would crouch down to kids’ levels when he spent time with them, and also the valiant officer with the tattooed arms who in 2003 chased and tackled a cocaine dealer who had fled a drug bust and tackled him.

This past weekend, Ahrens’ 30-year high school reunion was held in Los Angeles, where former classmates honored his service. “Please continue to keep the families of the officers in your thoughts and prayers”.
