Over 200 Indiana Residents Placed in Shelters After Indiana Tornadoes

The National Weather Service said an EF3 tornado hit the south side of Kokomo, packing winds of up to 165 miles per hour. The weather service had two teams Thursday conducting damage surveys in northeast in and northwest OH where a confirmed tornado, possibly an EF3, ripped about homes and barn roofs and knocked down trees between Woodburn and Harlan. The state’s Department of Homeland Security reported early Thursday that 12 tornadoes touched down in Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, Grant, Howard, Marion and Montgomery counties in northern and central in, but later the agency revised that number to eight.

The National Weather Service is inspecting all those reports Thursday to verify whether or not it was an actual tornado that caused the damages.

Since the beginning of August, Dahmer says 18 tornadoes have been confirmed throughout the state.

The storm swept across Indianapolis Friday morning, knocking down numerous trees onto homes and across streets.

Tornadoes that touched down in central in tore roofs off apartment buildings, sent air conditioners falling onto parked cars and cut power to thousands of people, but left no one seriously injured.

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. says about 22,000 homes and businesses lost electricity, with the vast majority on the city’s north and northeast sides.

Dan McCarthy, the meteorologist in charge of the weather service’s Indianapolis office, says no additional evidence of tornadoes is expected to be found in central Indiana. Furthermore, the Colts are providing financial support for the American Red Cross and the United Way of Howard County, while the proceeds of the 50/50 raffle from Saturday’s preseason game will be donated to the Red Cross and other relief organizations to help.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and U.S. Sen.

The Republican vice presidential candidate returned to IN from the campaign trail Wednesday evening after the National Weather Service said several tornadoes struck the state.

“It sounded like it lasted forever, but I’m sure it wasn’t”, Swyers said.

About a dozen people suffered minor injuries as the tornadoes moved through the area, said State Police spokesman Capt. David Bursten.
