Over two dozen injured in NYC explosion

Authorities held a press conference approximately 3 hours after the incident occurred, which was approximately 8:30 PM (EST).
The blast occurred on West 23rd Street in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood shortly after 8:30 p.m.
The a top fire service official in NY later pegged the number of those hurt in the blast at 29, but said none of their injuries was life-threatening.
During a news conference Saturday night, Mayor Bill de Blasio called the incident “an intentional act”, though there was no evidence of a terror connection.
The Mayor described the explosion as an “intentional act” but said there is no evidence at this point of a terror link. NY officials said the incident was not due to a gas leak, as some had speculated.
Police have removed a suspicious device from a Manhattan location four blocks from the site of an explosion that injured more than two dozen people. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person wasn’t authorized to speak about an ongoing investigation.
The FBI and Homeland Security officials, along with the ATF arson and explosive task force were also at the scene.
An explosive device has been “intentionally” detonated in Manhattan causing multiple injuries, according to NY authorities.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump issued a statement suggesting the explosion was caused by a bomb, but authorities have not released any information about the suspected cause of the blast.
No-one was hurt in New Jersey, and the authorities do not believe there is a link with the NY explosion. NYPD chief of Transportation Thomas Chan tweeted that first responders were at West 23rd Street by 6th and 7th Aves and asked that the public “avoid the area & expect delays & closures in regards”. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
“We better get very tough”.
That includes investigating if an incendiary device was planted to cause the blast, a senior official familiar with the investigation told WNBC, our NBC station in NY.

“It was a quiet night, and then i heard this deafening boom”, said Jakir Aussin, who works at a Dunkin Donuts at 23rd and Sixth Avenue. As of the most recent information, there have been 27 injuries reported.
