Owaisi brothers booked, three held for attacks

The leaders requested the Governor to direct the State Government to provide additional security to Telangana Congress President Uttam Kumar Reddy and Mohammad Shabbir Ali, another party leader, in view of the “attacks” on them.

Mirchowk Police Inspector Y Yadgir Reddy told PTI they have received a similar complaint from an Urdu daily reporter alleging Owaisi and some of his followers attacked him yesterday. City Congress Committee President Kesh Venu, DCC former president G Gangadar and several others participated.BJP district president P Gangareddy also demanded to arrest MIM leaders responsible for the attacks. Owaisi also reached there at the same time which escalated tension between the two groups. Shabbir Ali and Uttam Kumar Reddy sustained minor injuries in the attack.

He alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, DGP Anurag Sharma and Commissioner Mahender Reddy were aware that the Congress leaders would be attacked.

Asaduddin Owaisi with his followers had come to the police station, taking objection to the presence of the Congress leaders, who were there to seek release of their party activist Mohammed Ghouse. “Police said that it was preventive arrest”, Owaisi said. The contesting candidates in other division were not allowed to enter the polling stations while MIM workers were given a free hand to rig the polls. “Based on CCTV footage, three persons were today arrested in connection with the case wherein the Congress leader was allegedly attacked”, the DCP said, adding further probe is on.

“We are investigating all the cases”.

Telangana TDP President L Ramana said Opposition leaders will meet Union Home Minister, Prime Minister and President and apprise them of about the law and order situation in the State.

The opposition parties have demanded immediate action against MIM leaders for the attacks.
