Owen Smith blames Jeremy Corbyn for Labour finishing third in Holyrood election
Both candidates warned against the prospect of Labour splitting after the election, something which has been mooted if Mr Corbyn wins the contest when the result is announced at next month’s party conference in Liverpool.

“Jeremy has never wanted us to stay in the European Union – his record is clear, he’s always been opposed to it”, Mr Smith said.
Mr Draper, a prominent supporter of Mr Corbyn and a Labour member for 40 years, said he was “disgusted and in shock” after receiving a letter saying he was suspended pending a hearing, a move which will prevent him voting in the leadership election.
On his campaign visit to Edinburgh, Mr Corbyn entered the fray, saying he was “very concerned” some of his supporters had apparently been “unfairly removed” from the voting list.
Mr Smith said: “The reason I think that Jeremy can be so complacent and passive about this is that he’s happy about the result”.
Rival Owen Smith last night accused Mr Corbyn of being “happy” about the vote for the United Kingdom to leave the EU.
Allies of Jeremy Corbyn are furious at what they see as attempts to tilt the leadership contest by purging the party membership of his backers.
He said he reserved the right to disagree with the SNP, adding that the Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) figures released this week showed how fragile the SNP’s vision of independence is.
He said: “We’ve gone from second to third”.
Also in the video, former shadow transport secretary Ms Greenwood said Mr Corbyn launched a reshuffle on the day of a campaign against rail fare increases, undermining the hard work done by her team.
He went on: “People did feel that the last Labour government wasn’t radical enough”.
The Islington North MP called for an “open and respectful debate” after the scenes at the leadership hustings at the SECC on Thursday night. But the Pontypridd MP was forced to defend the Lothians MSP when her name was met with jeers as he praised the “brilliant job” she had done in Scotland. There have also been suspensions issued to those in the centre of the party, including John Will Chambers, an Owen Smith-supporting former adviser to Stella Creasy.
“And I’m really anxious that I’m hearing a Labour audience laughing and jeering at the leader of Scottish Labour”.

Ruling out any kind of progressive alliance, he claimed the party was “underfunding” Scottish local authorities, and said Scotland’s £14.8 billion deficit in 2015/16 placed a huge question mark over the SNP’s independence mission.
