Jeremy Corbyn will receive the majority of Northampton Labour group’s vote when the party’s leadership election – which will see the current leader go up against MP Owen Smith – is held later this month.

Mr Smith attacked the Labour leader for being “7/10” in favour of remaining in the European Union and now being “10/10” as the United Kingdom prepares to quit the bloc, citing his call for Article 50 soon after the referendum result came in.

Owen Smith was booed by some Labour members last night after he said winning elections was more important than ‘badges and t-shirts’.
“We have to build and transform our society and give people the confidence things can be done differently in Britain.”

The Greater Manchester mayoral candidate told the programme: “To pull the rug from under our MPs or other elected representatives, I don’t think is helpful at this time, it fuels a climate of distrust and I don’t think that that is where we should be”.
“Jeremy can’t do that and that’s why we need to change the leader of the Labour party”.
“I would not, as Jeremy has done, vote against my party 500 times”.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Post exclusively, Mr Smith: “I’ve said we should extend the contest by a couple of weeks in light of the High Court ruling in order to make sure that’s clear”.
“I don’t want it to be futile, fruitless work”.
While Smith said he’d offer Corbyn a place on his team if he became party leader, Corbyn said he’d have no room for his opponent. He pledged to make sure the “political spectrum” within the party was represented in his shadow cabinet.

Watson’s patronising suggestion that young members are the unwitting puppets of conniving old Trots reflects a broader attitude among Labour MPs which views the massive influx into the party as a threat rather than an opportunity.
