Owned NBC stations say ‘no’ to Sling TV ads

“The ads you are about to watch have been banned by Comcast-owned NBC stations in the markets where we asked them to run them”, Lynch said.

Comcast must not have liked what it saw in Sling TV’s new ad campaign, which provides an unflattering view of the cable-TV industry. The media conglomerate owns the NBC network, and on the stations it owns and operates – known as O&O, and different from affiliate stations – it is outright rejecting the ads. Many of us are exhausted of long-term contracts, expensive programming bundles, high prices and poor customer service.

Well, circle up, folks – it looks like we have a good ol’ fashioned playground fight on our hands. To come and go as we like. And perhaps most importantly, we want rational pricing.

“Comcast has a demonstrated history of shutting down ideas it doesn’t like or understand, predictably to its benefit and at the expense of consumers”, Lynch added.

Earlier this month, Comcast said it is beta-testing a new service that would let its Xfinity Internet customers stream live TV over phones, tablets and laptops for $15 per month.

Lynch also points out that his company was a vocal opponent to the proposed Comcast-Time Warner merger, which fell apart when federal regulators refused to approve it. Comcast was denied this avenue. “All of the other major networks – ABC, CBS, FOX – are running these commercials for us”. “Unfortunately, it appears “Old TV” may grasp at any tactic in attempt to preserve the status quo”.
