Police are investigating an unusual incident in Central Park after a man’s dog died suddenly during a walk.

When David Burke took his dog for an evening stroll in Central Park Tuesday, he probably didn’t think it would end in a tragedy.

WABC reports, “The dog, possibly a black Labrador, was off the leash and had run down a hill”.

The Post reports that Burke told police that he had not seen anyone else in the park in the moments before his awful discovery.

They brought the dog to an ASPCA facility where it was pronounced dead.

Police said that Duke’s injuries did not appear consistent with that of a gunshot wound. According to NBC New York, there was one hole on the top of the dog’s head and another under its eye. In fact, Burke admitted he didn’t even hear gunshots.

A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
