Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott out three weeks for Arsenal, England

The duo are set to miss the next two Premier League ties against Swansea City and Tottenham and a Champions League trip to Bayern Munich. Already we are now short.

“The problem sometimes is you can destroy two departments if you move one player out”.

“I have to manage the workload of the players and at the end of the day I still think I maybe brought too many experienced players here”.

Gunners boss Wenger resisted the temptation to allow the forward more time away from the Emirates Stadium, but accepts Campbell is entering a crucial stage of his Arsenal career.

“We haven’t played the last four or five games to the level we’re capable of”, Monk said.

Wenger can not claim he fielded a side full of youngsters either, as Petr Cech, Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Debuchy, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud were all named in the starting XI.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side continued where they left off after the interval as Sam Hutchinson bundled home Kieran Lee’s cross to inflict Arsenal’s worst defeat to lower-league opposition in 56 years and send Sheffield Wednesday cruising into the last eight for the first time since 2002.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wenger said, would be back after the upcoming internationals – Arsenal play at West Bromwich Albion on 21 November in their first game after the break – but Walcott is expected to remain on the sidelines.

Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky are all long-term injuries, while Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey are also now unavailable. “It is a big blow for us today, of course to lose the game but even more for the other competitions that are very important for us, to lose two players of that stature”.

Wenger suggested that Costa Rican worldwide Joel Campbell was an option for the vacant wide position at Swansea, as he is reluctant to disrupt the formation too much by moving Santi Cazorla from the centre.

The Owls are in good form and are unbeaten in seven league matches but the victory of Arsene Wenger’s men will give them a little more momentum.

Wenger said: “Nothing has changed since after the game”.

“To play with young players against Championship teams now becomes very hard”.
