Ozark Police Honor Fallen Officers

This year, the names of 252 officers killed in the line of duty are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week.

Several law enforcement agencies will gather to pay respect to fallen officers in Sebastian County on Wednesday.

In this time of national scrutiny of police practices, we have found that open and transparent communication with those we serve has and continues to generate goodwill.

“As we all go about our normal lives, we in law enforcement are humbled by those officers who have given their lives in service to their communities”, said Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan.

A slideshow showed the names and photographs of officers who died in the line of duty in 2016, and Sgt. Lisa Sage read through a list of names of the 13 Kansas law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty since 2006. The ceremony included a roll call of Idaho’s fallen officers, starting from the 1880s, and proceeding slowly to the present day.
