Ozil convinced Mustafi to join Arsenal

Wenger was delighted with his side’s overall performance and remains confident the Gunners will have a strong squad with the addition of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, along with the return of injured players.

Arsenal appear unlikely to make any further signings before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

Mustafi, formerly of Everton and Sampdoria, has been with Valencia since 2014.

“Playing in the Champions League & with teammates who I can learn from, who have big experience, so that’s why I moved there”. Everything was positive so I was convinced very fast but it did not take much.

However, it looks like either the German FA knows something we don’t or they’ve jumped the gun a little as they confirmed on their official website today that Mustafi has completed his move to Arsenal – despite there being no official confirmation from either club [as the time of writing].

And the pair could make their debuts against Southampton on September 10.

Arsene Wenger has said Theo Walcott will prove his critics wrong if he can maintain his fitness and build on a promising start to the season.

Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez were on target in the Gunners’ 3-1 Premier League win at Watford on Saturday, their first victory of the campaign.

The pressure had been on Wenger and his side heading into the weekend after flawless starts from both Manchester clubs had left them playing catch-up.

Asked if Ozil’s presence had made a difference for the Gunners, Wenger replied: “Especially in the first half”. But of course we need him.
