Ozil was a bargain at £40m – Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is open to splash the cash in the January transfer window, if a top quality player becomes available.

However, Wenger believes the 24-year-old and Santi Cazorla are too attack-minded to play alongside one another in a central position.

The Gunners will now be hoping Chambers can save them from having to possibly spend big on a new midfielder this January.

“In my mind, I have seen that the turn of our results last season was when I went for a bit of stability and put Coquelin in there”, Wenger said. That’s where you come back to what is a bargain.

“I used him on the right because he gives us a balance”.

“We played at a good pace and produced a game of quality that we wanted”. I’ll take information from medical people who know him and treat him every day.

“Arteta is not a Coquelin but he is a tactical player, who loves to sit now because he is going forward less”, Wenger said. “We spent £40m on Ozil but I still consider it a bargain because the player is top quality and the priority has to be the quality of the player”.

Bargain or not, there are definitely some areas in the squad that need replenishing if Arsenal are serious about mounting a title challenge. ‘In the last two games we took one point out of six and that is very hard and very disappointing when you are on such a great run.

Wenger had announced his intentions to rest his star player, but with Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all sidelined through injury, a free slot for Sanchez to recharge his batteries has proven hard to find. “It is you, the press, that have given me that reputation, but my friends don’t think that”.

They must now win in Greece by any scoreline other than 1-0 or 2-1.Wenger is confident, as he should be if Ozil and Sanchez remain fit.

I understand that sitting in 4th with teams breathing down our necks and gathering momentum is uncomfortable.
