A Montgomery County jury has found Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane guilty on all counts.

After Kane’s conviction Monday, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason said it was “a bad day for the Commonwealth”. Closing arguments are set for Monday, Aug. 15, 2016. Attorney General Kane has been convicted of serious charges.

Kane, who was the first woman and Democrat elected to serve as the state’s attorney general, was seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party. Kane, who is out on bail, was also found guilty of leaking “a 2009 grand jury probe to embarrass a rival prosecutor”.

A top deputy told the jury he was alarmed when he saw the June 2014 article. Kane decided on Friday not to testify at her trial or put on any defense witnesses.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the possibility of Kane resigning “will be dealt with in the next several days”, her lawyer Gerald Shargel said. The defense said Kane wouldappeal. She faces up to seven years in prison for each of two felony perjurycounts. “I believed this when she was charged, and today, after conviction, there should be no question that she should resign immediately”, Wolf said. The state Supreme Court suspended her law license, and she has drained campaign funds to pay legal bills. However, officials in Pennsylvania do not have to resign over misconduct until they are sentenced.
He and his co-prosecutor, Michelle Henry from the Bucks County district attorney’s office, said they believed the evidence was overwhelming.
