Pablo Sandoval leaves game after being hit with pitch after
Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been taken out of Boston’s game against the Chicago White Sox after getting hit on the left forearm while striking out. It was a replaced instead by a series of two-strike hits, dinks and dunks and runners stranded as the White Sox fell 8-2 to the Boston Red Sox in front of 36,215.

The Chicago White Sox continued their march back into postseason contention Wednesday night. A Bogaerts sac fly closed the book on Sale on put the game out of reach.
Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run as the Sox chased Sale from the game in the sixth inning. He’s gone 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA in four games this month while backed with 17 runs. Rutledge flied out to center fielder Eaton. It ended worse, as Sale faced five batters in the sixth inning and failed to retire any of them. Steven Wright allowed two runs in the first inning, and from there it was… Ortiz doubled to right, Bogaerts scored.
Ortiz added the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning. Bradley Jr. was hit by a pitch.
The Red Sox have won two of their last three games after winning just once in their previous 10 contests.
Lester (6-8) struck out seven of his first eight hitters, and nine of the first 14.
– Right-hander Jean Machi joined the Red Sox on Thursday after being claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants earlier this week. OF Daniel Nava was designated for assignment, and LHP Tommy Layne was optioned to Triple-A. It was the second time this season and just the fourth time this year that Sale’s given up as many runs.
David Ortiz has homered in three of his last six games, including two against Detroit on Sunday for his first multi-homer game of the season. Jimmy Nelson pitched seven innings of two-hit ball for Milwaukee, but Chicago rallied in the eighth. Holt’s base hit was the knockout punch, as manager Robin Ventura pulled Sale from the game to put an end to a miserable outing. He gave up four walks and five runs with four strikeouts in six innings.
The Padres trailed 7-1 in the seventh when Derek Norris hit a grand slam.
Their styles couldn’t be more different, but when Wright took the mound Thursday night, Sale’s track record was the last thing on his mind. Familia then got ahead of Norris 0-1 before heavy rains arrived and umpires waved the teams off the field.
And from the offense, it was a big night from two of the names you’d expect, and one you’d desperately hope.

Matt Kemp followed with another single. Alexei Ramirez homered over the Green Monster in left field leading off the third to make it 6-0. He struck out in the ninth inning.
