Pac 12 Power Rankings Week 3: Can Stanford run the table?

The 6-2, 200-pound junior is one of two Pac-12 quarterbacks with at least five completions of 40 yards or more. The Sun Devils are 3-0 and take on Cal next week.

In the Sun Devils’ first road game, they showed a few weaknesses. OR completed their first two-point conversion to go up 8-0 but they continued to go for it, for whatever reason, and when they kept messing up they kept doubling down on their mistakes to continue to chase points.

Stanford might have made a mistake scheduling their homecoming game against the Buffs. Will Mark Helfrich learn his lesson? How about Mike Riley, though? “He’s a really good player”. Colorado jumped all over Jim Harbaugh’s squad to the tune of a 14-0 lead before MI returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to trim the lead. “If we get a two-score lead in the second half, we’re going to run it”.

I’m not saying the Utes are going to run the table in conference play, but they don’t have to, the South is still theirs for the taking.

Do not be fooled with The Cougars losses to Eastern Washington & Boise State. “Just throw me in there and get the party started”.

USC: The Trojans lost their second game of the season last week in Stanford, losing 27-10 to the Cardinal as a 7.5-point underdog.

“Oh, BYU is a different level, man”, Tu’ikolovatu said. Rosen is not exceeding expectations due to his overhyped head coach whose proven nothing but just being a good recruiter; however, that is another story for another time. The Huskies added 13 more in the 4th quarter for insurance.

USU linebacker Brock Carmen is one of the stars anchoring the defense after recording a career-best 12 tackles, two quarterback hurries, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack last week.

“I hope we play that team again, I really do”, USC coach Clay Helton said about a possible rematch in the Pac-12 title game.

Utah has certainly struggled with USC in their history, but that is likely to change this weekend. “Hopefully our pass rush and our coverage wins the game for us, and that’s kind of what happened tonight”. Stanford takes on UCLA next week, a squad they’ve beaten eight consecutive times.

As the college football calendar slowly ticks towards October, the Pac-12 conference is showing the rest of the country they are for real.

Last week, the Ducks were able to control the game against Virginia with a quick strike passing offense, a productive running game and an aggressive defense. Sometimes the problem with being an institution is that you are an institution and USC football is one that is long overdue for a hard look in the mirror. They toted the rock 25 times for 23 yards on the ground. “If they can figure out how to get stops and shore it up on the back end, they’re absolutely a risky team because of all the playmakers they have on offense”.

“We spread the ball around”, Helton said. Darnold has, however, played in all three games this season. The Utes limited the Spartans to just 56 rushing yards on 32 carries.

Last season, Jackson played on offense, defense and special teams and was the Trojans’ second-leading receiver. Then there was week 2, where the Trojans defeated a Utah State team that is not even a contender in the Mountain West Conference.

After this close one in Lincoln, neither team is ranked, and OR had to play most of it without star running back Royce Freeman who suffered a knee injury and left the game in the first quarter.

The Washington State Cougars finally got in the win column on Saturday, as they trounced the Idaho Vandals at home. I was a little anxious that Cal’s defense wouldn’t be able to get enough stops if the team fell behind by double digits, but I’m glad I was wrong. The NCAA’s leading receiver, Chad Hansen, immediately made Texas pay with a 23-yard touchdown grab on a handsome throw from Davis Webb to give Cal a halftime lead. As evidenced a year ago, players like Cam Smith and Adoree Jackson have the ability to change games with forced turnovers. Also, shoutout to the defense for pitching a shutout in the third quarter.

You wouldn’t believe it based on the final score, but this was a close matchup for a good minute. Andy Phillips has gone 5-6 on field goal attempts for Utah, with a long of 47 yards. The Cardinal defense allowed just one touchdown, which came in the beginning of the third quarter. But he sure could use a chance to retool after that disaster last week.
