Pac-Mac 256 arrives on smartphones, along with an interesting IAP system
Like most mobile games that are free-to-play, “Pac-man 256” gives players credits to play the game. Because, god knows why, it works. To get a special surprise, be prepared to string a 256 combo chopping on those Pac-Dots.

Pac-Man 256 is described as “endless maze chase” based on the infamous “256 Glitch”. You see, the corrupted characters don’t just block your path and make it hard to see, like they did in the original game. With Pac-Man 256, Hipster Whale has basically taken that retro-futura shtick and glossed it onto Toru Iwatani’s 1980 arcade masterpiece.
Pac-Man 256 bills itself as “PAC-MAN perfectly reinvented for your mobile phone or tablet”, with an endless maze putting a new twist on the “endless runner” genre while cleverly taking advantage of Pac-Man’s most terrifying threat – the famous GLITCH that occurred once a player passed level 255 to 256. He can now. Another power-up slows ghost movement to a hilarious snow-blanketed crawl. Power Pellets still turn the ghosts blue, but even handier are random power-ups like a wicked laser beam and a freeze bomb. I’ve only unlocked three of the 16 possible abilities, and I’d imagine things get wilder as you go. Along the way, players must continue to elude ghosts, as usual, while also collecting bonus fruit and coins. The game is already on the Play Store for free, but it’s also playable on the NVIDIA SHIELD and supports the SHIELD controller so if you want a more traditional feel instead of using touchscreen controls, you’ll be able. You get play credits every 10 minutes, but even if you run out, you can still play, just without using power-ups. Unlimited credits can be obtained for £5.99, or 12 can be bought for 79p.

Daisuke Hattori, Project Manager of PAC-MAN 256 at BANDAI NAMCO Studios Vancouver Inc. added, “Developing this game with the Hipster Whale team has been extremely exciting from beginning to end (we will have updates of course)”.
