On Tuesday the team announced that they will be wearing uniforms for certain games this season that are inspired by the movie “Hoosiers“, one of the absolute classic basketball films of our time.

In a news release, Todd Taylor, the Pacers’ senior vice president for sales and marketing, said the team worked with MGM on the idea. The Hickory uniform is a tribute to the rich tradition of basketball in the State of Indiana and will serve as inspiration to fans everywhere that no matter how improbable the challenge may be, fantastic things can be accomplished through teamwork, determination, heart and hustle. Eleven months after the injury ruined his season and derailed the Pacers’ title hopes, George has moved on.

The Hickory Hoosiers are coming to the National Basteball Association. “Hoosiers takes us all back to a special place and time”, said Bird. Starting next season, you’ll be able to rock authentic team gear that also pays homage to an Indiana basketball institution more widely known and celebrated in popular culture than the state’s college or pro teams.

Hoosiers has gone down as one of the best sports movies ever made.

In fact, the underdog film even holds its water among the national media in terms of greatest sports movies. The film, written and directed by Indiana natives Angelo Pizzo and David Anspaugh, is loosely based on the 1954 Milan HS team that became the smallest school (with just 161 students) to win the Indiana State championship. The jerseys are a part of the National Basteball Association Pride Collection, an initiative that has teams throughout the National Basteball Association finding unique ways to celebrate their history.
