“Pacific Rim 2” to begin filming in November
It’s still unclear who Tian will play.

The info comes from the announcement that Chinese actress Jing Tian has joined the cast. Having wrapped work on both KONG: SKULL ISLAND and the Matt Damon period piece creature feature THE GREAT WALL, Tian has now signed on to co-star in the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 “mech vs. kaiju” film PACIFIC RIM.
“Pacific Rim 2” stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny with Ron Perlman rumoured to reprise his role as Hannibal Chau. Jon Spaihts wrote the current script attached to the film, and Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly is also on the production team for the film. Cale Boyter will serve as the film’s executive producer.
After years of uncertainty, “Pacific Rim 2” now has an official release date as well as a filming location. Her Kong ensemble castmates include Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman. On the other hand, I loved how diverse and global the original Pacific Rim was, and I don’t think it would be right to assume that Tian’s casting is just to fulfill a quota required to take advantage of the lucrative Chinese box office. Production begins in November in Australia, and the staff will shoot a portion of the film in China.

The Pacific Rim follow-up is set to be released on February 23, 2018, by Universal, which is handling all territories except China.
