A 5K fundraising event on the Longleaf Trace was hosted by Diva Timing and Soccer Locker.
For the second straight year, Salvation Army leaders are seeing a spree of valuable jewelry donations at the company’s Red Kettle donation sites around the state. Serving at the Walmart in Elkin this year, Paschal said, “As a kid growing up in a single-parent family, I would have never had Christmas without the Salvation Army”.
“I wish that all of Londoners could experience the relief on parents’ faces when they receive their Christmas Hamper”, said spokesperson Perron Goodyear last week. “I knew we had to get the money”. “We are blessed to be part of a community that is willing to share that kind of joy with others”, said Allison. While generous community members have purchased and dropped off the latest toys and games for all the young angels, hundreds of senior angels are still on the waiting list to get their wishes granted.
Paschal explained bell ringing now is his way of paying it forward.
Major Tamayo adds that with just over a week until Christmas the Salvation Army is only a third of the way to their holiday campaign goal.
Anyone wanting to volunteer to man a Red Kettle may call the Salvation Army Jamestown office at 252-0290.
Kettles are located throughout the area communities – including outside many big box stores – making it convenient for people to give.
The Salvation Army also operates a 36-bed Family Manor Emergency Shelter at its main location in Monroe, which provides a place for homeless individuals and families to stay for up to 90 days.

“Overall Red Kettle donations are down”, the organization said.
