Packers cornerback Sam Shields relishes matchups with top receivers

After a come-from-behind win last week, the Cowboys can still manage to snag a playoff spot should they manage to win their division, a task that doesn’t seem as hard when you look at the competition in it. However, the team is going to have to play out of their mind in order to make it anywhere. He had a long reception in the second quarter overturned on replay – the same thing happened to him last season during the Cowboys’ loss to the Packers in an NFC divisional round playoff game. These teams have met 32 times, with each winning 16. It makes sense in a way since he is probably nothing more than the number four receiving option behind Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, and Jason Witten, but I believe that Beasley can be the determining factor in helping the Cowboys beat the Green Bay Packers this week.

But that game is way too far off for Green Bay.

Starks, who ran for 71 yards and caught four passes for 32 yards, did find the end zone later on a 13-yard pass to give the Packers a 7-0 lead with 9:49 remaining in the first quarter. That game will forever be known as “The Ice Bowl”. The legendary Ice Bowl, then the National Football League championship game, was staged at Lambeau on December 31, 1967, in a wind chill factor of 23-below.

“I was just making sure everything that I was doing was the right thing to do”, Lacy said.

Now fast forward almost 50 years to 2015. Only two teams have turned the ball over more than the Cowboys this season, so the Packers must be ready to pounce whenever they come across a loose ball or an errant pass. The Cowboys are coming into Lambeau at 4-8 and looking to just barely maintain hope in the division.

OK, but we’ll still see a battle of two great quarterbacks like Bart Starr and Dandy Don Meredith… With QB Matt Cassel, the Cowboys were finished, anyway. The NFL’s reigning MVP has been sacked a harrowing 31 times. “He’s quiet, and I’m quiet, and we just play football”.

So this isn’t going to be the Ice Bowl.

“I was still excited about the game”, he explained jokingly on Sunday. Their 4-8 record accurately reflects the corner they’ve backed themselves into. And honestly they’re lucky to be there.

On the NFL Network broadcast, play-by-play man Brad Nessler said the last successful fair-catch kick took place in 1976. The Packers are on top of the NFC North, but that’s thanks in part to the Vikings continuing to stub their toe.

Barry Church, Sean Lee, and Rolando McClain all tallied eleven tackles for the Cowboys, who did manage to play strong defense in the third quarter, keeping Dallas in the game. Perhaps it should be re-named the NFC “least”.

The Dallas Cowboys will attempt to do something they’ve only done once during their entire history on Sunday. And also, the Packers offense is struggling this season. This means the press coverage needs to be stout for the Cowboys DBs in this game.

Overall, the Packers can’t complain much about a three-touchdown win, but they still have some inherent problems that need fixing.

Blame a defense that could not stop Eddie Lacy and could not take the ball away if you want, but the bulk of the blame has to go to an offense that has scored one or fewer touchdowns in seven of 13 games this season.
