The NFL made the announcement Friday afternoon.

The Green Bay Packers have released LB Nate Palmer . He started 10 games last season before being replaced on the inside by Jake Ryan. He finished fourth on the team in special teams tackles with nine.

It leaves the Packers thin at inside linebacker with Clay Matthews expected to move back to the outside. It’s expected that Ryan and Barrington will compete for at least one starting job, though the Green Bay Packers will likely remain in the market for a three-down linebacker.

The cornerback in his sophomore year will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season without pay.

Goodson is now the second Green Bay player to be suspended for the first four games of next season, joining defensive lineman Mike Pennel, who violated the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

Goodson played in 14 games last season, getting time on defense but even more so on special teams. He was the fifth cornerback and saw a season-high 49 snaps against Carolina when injuries struck the secondary. When Goodson returns, he’ll serve as depth behind starters Sam Shields and Damarious Randall.
