Packers ground game pounds Cowboys for 230 yards in runaway win

As for a wild-card berth, Green Bay also is in good shape there with an 9-4 record (7-3 in the NFC). This is a great sign for the Cowboys that he is back to full health when the team needs him most. Let’s break down Sunday’s game. A swing pass to halfback James Starks for a 13-yard touchdown started the scoring.

Schematically the Packers are always a team that throws a lot of quick slants and shallow crossing routes, but without the consistent deep threat from Nelson, defenses have been able to play those underneath routes extremely aggressively keeping them from working open.

If you prefer to hold out for every last mathematical possibility, you’ll want to know that there’s actually still a chance for the Packers to get the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Head coach Mike McCarthy made noise before Sunday’s game by taking over as the play-caller for the offense after he had delegated those duties to associate head coach Tom Clements in the offseason.

With play of the quarterback such a big determining factor in who wins the game, the Cowboys are at a big disadvantage in this one. Here’s a Cowboys team that I look at and think, boy, what a pile of shit. Rodgers added his second touchdown pass of the day, finding tight end Richard Rodgers.

“Same thing he did last week”. While that game was filled with tons of drama, don’t expect much this time around. Lambeau Field just hasn’t been kind to 88. I am nearly afraid to pick the Packers since the only games they’ve won in the last six weeks were games where I picked them to lose. Surprisingly, it was later revealed that he was benched for missing curfew the night before. However, the offense has had its fair share of struggles, with running back Eddie Lacy at the forefront of it all. He had put together back-to-back 100 yard or better games against Minnesota and Chicago before his misstep. The Packers have not lost three straight home games since 2006. There have been countless congratulatory texts and messages, but talking to Rodgers this week, it was as if it was just another ho-hum game. This weekend, the Green Bay Packers host a rematch of a playoff game from the Divisional Round one year ago. He’s not quite a shutdown cornerback, though the Packers’ Shields relishes opportunities to face top receivers.

In short, it appears that both McCarthy and Lacy are putting this recent incident behind them to focus on finishing the regular season strong and possibly clinching a playoff spot. Yes, they have a long way to go to get to that point, but Sunday was a start.

The players downplayed the change after the game, but Green Bay’s robust effort of 435 total yards, a season-high 230 rushing yards and controlling the football for almost 38 minutes counted for something positive.

Garrett was asked whether he had noted how many times this season the Cowboys’ opponents have had extra time to prepare.

Mike McCarthy said he saw evidence of definite improvement on offense in the second half of the Packers’ win in Detroit.

After last week’s incredible come-from-behind, last-second win, Packers fans are anxious for the team to hit the field again.
