Packers lock up DL Mike Daniels to contract extension

After months of wrangling, the Packers and defensive end Mike Daniels finally have agreed to a contract extension.

On Monday that determination paid off for Daniels in a big way.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting the Green Bay Packers have signed defensive end Mike Daniels to a four-year, $42 million extension.

“My agent called me, gave me the lay, and had to agree with him”, Daniels said.

Instead, Daniels still wanted to talk about the chip he’s had on his shoulder ever since high school – when he was lightly recruited – and that he carried through the University of Iowa and into the National Football League draft, where some teams viewed him as too short to be an every-down player. I want to win Super Bowls with this team.

“Everyone told me that I’d be insane to leave Green Bay”.

A defensive-minded group like the Broncos or the Cardinals or even the Panthers could have given Daniels a real look this offseason – and their Super Bowl chances are just as great, this year and to come.

In his four years with the Packers, Daniels has recorded 117 tackles and 18 sacks playing basically the same position as Cox does in the Eagles’ 3-4 scheme. Green Bay won 26-21.

His 2015 take-home pay will be the original $1,542,000 base salary from that rookie deal plus his brand spanking new $12 million signing bonus. “I’ll just keep on working”.
