Packers loss still stings a day later

Rodgers ran in from six yards to give his side an early lead, but the Jags replied with a touchdown of their own.

If that wasn’t enough to send Mike McCarthy through the roof – if there was one atop Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium – and Aaron Rodgers into a fit of frustration, then the third-and-2 play in which some of the Green Bay Packers’ offensive linemen pass protected while others run blocked should suffice.

Green Bay’s second drive went 16 plays for 73 yards and 9:14. The unit needed the break after losing cornerbacks Sam Shields and LaDarius Gunter to injury during the drive and having played 24 fourth-quarter snaps on the oppressively hot day. The last thing you want to do is take a 0-yard run because that counts as a sack. “This game came down to that and we made the play”. As a result, the Jaguars dropped their regular-season opener for the fifth consecutive year.

NELSON’S RETURN: The next step in Packers receiver Jordy Nelson’s return should be busting a big play.

The score would give the Packers the lead with just 20 seconds left of a see-saw first half that saw the lead change four times.

“Every player, every team, is subject to the same rules”. Unfortunately for Jacksonville, even if they improve by another two games this season, a record of 7-9 isn’t likely to get them into the NFL Playoffs. On a blitz, Ramsey managed to get a handful of the quarterback’s jersey and was yanking him down, but Rodgers was still able to throw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams.

Alex Smith dived for a touchdown on the first possession of overtime, completing the Kansas City Chiefs’ frantic rally from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the San Diego Chargers 33-27 in their season.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) runs for a 6-yard touchdown past Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks (99) during the first half of an NFL football game in Jacksonville, Fla., Sunday, Sept. 11, . Bortles, who led the National Football League with 18 interceptions last season, had one on the team’s first drive on a pass that was bobbled by receiver Marqise Lee. Yeldon was forced to shoulder a heavier load than expected after running back Chris Ivory was admitted to a local hospital Sunday with an undisclosed injury.

Green Bay rushed five and the Jaguars’ six pass protectors blocked well for quarterback Blake Bortles.

A revamped defense also showed it should be able to hold up against a tough opening month of opponents. While Bortles connected with a couple of solid passes, the first sack of the game prevented the Jaguars from crossing the 50-yard-line for the first time in the game.

“It’s not about the calls”, Robinson said.

Leading 21-17 at halftime, the Packers resorted to playing keepaway in the second half. The Chargers are 5-1 in those games.

Nelson, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the 2015 preseason, left the visiting locker room before media were allowed in, so his reaction to his first real game since the 2014 NFC championship will have to wait.
