Packers place veteran long snapper on IR
Rick Lovato’s journey to becoming a member of the Green Bay Packers sounds like it is straight out of a movie script.

Green Bay Packers’ long-snapper Brett Goode has been put on injured reserve and is out for the year with a torn A-C-L knee ligament suffered in last Sunday’s win at Oakland. He was Old Dominion’s long snapper for all 50 games from 2011 to 2014.
McCarthy hopes a disruption won’t ensue as the Packers get ready to play at the NFC West-champion Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
He becomes the fifth Middletown South product to play in the National Football League, joining Knowshon Moreno, Christian and Jason Peter, and Scott Simonson, now a tight end with the Carolina Panthers.
Brett Goode, the Packers long snapper for the past eight years, is out for the season. He went to work at Joyce’s Subs and Pizza in Lincroft, N.J., which is owned by his father, Rick Sr., and an uncle, Neil Givens.
In all, Goode has played in 126 games for the Packers since 2008 when he joined the team. A team will typically hang on to a long snapper as long the player is healthy and not making mistakes.
As an undrafted free agent, the 6-foot-2 Lovato spent part of the offseason and training camp with the Bears.
“I’m sure they’re going to try to bring some pressure on me as a rookie”, he said. “No. 1, having Brett here (with the team) to be part of it, it definitely makes you feel good about that part – the transition”. A change at long snapper this late in the schedule will be a test. The three special-teamers – Crosby, Masthay and Goode – have been together for a significant number of games.
“It’s just a matter of being ideal and being quiet, staying quiet”, Lovato said.

Elsewhere on the injury front, McCarthy said left tackle David Bakhtiari (ankle) was scheduled to do some work in practice on Wednesday, but the workout as a whole would not be extensive. Running back Eddie Lacy (rib) is back on the injury report this week.
