SAN DIEGO (AP) The Seattle Mariners struggled to explain how they erased a 10-run deficit in just two innings to stun the San Diego Padres 16-13 Thursday night.

A mere formality, right?
Jay had a career-high five hits, and the Padres scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time in Petco Park history while out-hitting Seattle 20-16. Seager hit a bases-loaded, two-run single with one out in the sixth to chase starter Colin Rea, followed by Lee’s impressive, pinch-hit, three-run homer off Brad Hand that landed in the second balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. Or, more appropriately, death by seven singles as the Mariners essentially went station to station for seven straight batters.
San Diego’s Jon Jay had his first career five-hit game, one night after going 4 for 6.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of anything like that”, said Kyle Seager, who had three hits and drove in five runs. Prior to Tuesday, San Diego scored 14 first-inning runs all year. The Mariners picked up in the first where they left off on Tuesday, when thumped the Padres 16-4.Cano smoked a 90 miles per hour Friedrich fastball for a three-run homer, his 16th of the season.
Kyle Seager is hitting.397 (48-for-121) since April 30 with 11 doubles, two triples, six homers and 28 RBI… has hit safely in 29 of his last 36 games (.372, 51-for-137), including in each of his last six games (.600, 15-for-25).
The Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox put on a show of their own as former triumphed 12-7. Ramirez has three homers this season.
San Diego Padres’ Alexei Ramirez, left, congratulates Adam Rosales on the latter’s two-run home run against the Seattle Mariners during the first inning of a baseball game in San Diego, Wednesday, June 1, 2016.
“It’s one of those things that’s borderline inexplicable”, Green said. One run scored on that error, and San Diego scored four more runs before the inning ended.
Meanwhile, Brewers shortstop Jonathan Villar, who hit a home run Thursday, leads Major League Baseball with 19 stolen bases.
In Houston, Zack Greinke struck out a season-high 11, and Arizona used a three-run seventh inning to beat the Astros and Dallas Keuchel in a matchup of AL Cy Young Award winners. “But there’s at least two outs and it’s a different inning from there”.
But the next hitter, Wil Myers, took advantage of a 0-2 fastball that was left up in the zone, driving it over the wall in right field for a solo homer to cut it to 3-1.
“It really says a lot about our team”, Servais said.
QUOTABLE: “Honestly, I started getting into our candy bag”, closer Steve Cishek said. He faced three batters in the seventh and retired none.
Down 12-2 after an abysmal start from pitcher Wade Miley and less-than-stellar relief work from Mike Montgomery, the Mariners looked destined for their first road series loss of the season as well as their first back-to-back road losses.
With Hernandez sidelined, the Mariners recalled left-hander James Paxton from Triple-A Tacoma.

The bad luck came when Matt Kemp blooped a single in between Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano in shallow right field for a single.
