Padres’ Edwin Jackson loses no-hitter in seventh
So to think at all that he is a long term solution for the Padres is most likely fallacy, yet…would he be a bad guy to fill in a rotation spot while the Padres deal with calling up young pitchers and injuries? He gave up two home runs while taking the loss as the NL’s starting pitcher in the All-Star Game, and Petco Park continued to play like a litter box for him on Sunday. It certainly was a departure from his first three outings against the Padres this season, when he threw a trio of complete games while holding them to one run on 13 hits in 27 innings.

San Diego Padres pitcher Edwin Jackson hits a run-producing base hit to center field against the San Francisco Giants in the sixth inning of a baseball game Sunday, July 17, 2016, in San Diego.
Added Giants manager Bruce Bochy about Cueto being under the weather: “He wasn’t at full strength”.
The Giants scaled to the best record in baseball largely due to their top three starting pitchers. “You look at the fourth and fifth and he threw fifty something pitches, and I’m sure that took something out of him”. Rookie Ryan Schimpf hit an RBI single and Jackson followed two batters later with an RBI hit. Combined, Bumgarner, Samardzija and Cueto pitched just 16 innings and gave up 13 runs.
The bats went mostly silent and the three top starters had their roughest series since being put together in the offseason.
Gillaspie s homer cut the Padres lead to 4-3, but Yangervis Solarte tagged Hunter Strickland for a home run in the bottom of the seventh when he jumped on an 0-2 fastball at the top of the zone. If you are a Padres fan, or a Major League Baseball fan in general, stick around and enjoy me struggling with enjoy the team’s sweep of the San Francisco Giants while worrying about what the front office may be thinking right now.
Cueto allowed just six homers in the first half, with the Giants losing only two of his first 18 starts. Alexei Ramirez is 10-for-19 with a home run against Cueto, who took the loss in Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Petco Park after allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings.Jackson is being promoted from Triple-A El Paso to start in place of All-Star Drew Pomeranz, who was traded to Boston on Thursday.
“It felt good”, Gillaspie said. Cueto has been sick all week, and he woke up Sunday with soreness in his left ribcage. He pitched a no-hitter in 2010 for Arizona. The 32-year-old was released by Miami last month and has a 7.02 ERA in five minor league starts this season, but Padres manager Andy Green remains optimistic. With Johnny Cueto set to face Edwin Jackson in the pitching matchup, the over/under for this game sits at 7.5 runs. He also reached on a fielding error by Crawford. He allowed three runs – two earned – on one hit and five walks.

“We talked about that before the game”, said catcher Christian Betancourt, who caught Jackson previous year with the Atlanta Braves.
