With the return of Alexi Amarista and Yangervis Solarte, the San Diego Padres have found a small boost to their offense that has been proven just enough to lead them to back-to-back walk-off wins at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Red Sox 5, Indians 2: David Ortiz went 4 for 4 with a solo home run and a double, Jackie Bradley Jr. extended his hitting streak to 27 games in Boston’s win. He loaded the bases with a pair of walks, throwing eight balls and two strikes to Norris and Wallace. Clayton Kershaw pinch hit in the 15th. Although he was at times un-hittable, the Pads managed to tack on a run in the sixth and then later in the seventh once the Dodgers bullpen took over. Remember it was Upton who hit the 2-run, walkoff home run on Friday night off Jansen. Coleman did his job and got the out then Adam Liberatore entered the game. Adrian Gonzalez opened the inning with his second shift-beating single to left field of the night in his first start since Monday, then Trayce Thompson homered over the center field wall.
The Dodgers pitchers struck out 19 Padres on the night, the third-most in franchise history.
“That was a play Puig would like to take back”, Roberts said.
Wood allowed two runs and four hits in six-plus innings, with one walk.
The Dodgers are 31-15 in their last 46 during game 3 of a series and 0-4 in Maedas last 4 starts.
What’s surprising is that the Dodgers don’t seem to be showing too much urgency just yet, even in the face of a losing record and a potential division collapse. “He had a lot of confidence going into that at-bat and it showed”.
And once the Dodgers were retired in the top of the ninth still tied with the Padres, they were facing the possibility seeing the home team celebrate a game-ending run for the third day in a row.
Wil Myers: Three-run triple.
The game would remain tied at two and head into extras. It was Jansen’s first blown save of the season, and on Sunday, he was given a shot of redemption in the rematch.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Cesar Vargas throws against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the first inning of a baseball game in San Diego, Saturday, May 21, 2016.
Christian Friedrich started for San Diego and got his first major league RBI with a two-run single in the second that put the Padres ahead 2-0.
After the final out, Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis lingered near the plate, speaking with umpire Chris Guccione.
