The affectionately nicknamed Chris Carter broke out of an 0-for-23 slump in a big way Sunday afternoon, driving in a pair of runs with a home run and a double in leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres at Miller Park. The 27-year-old is now 2-4 with a 6.75 ERA this season and he has given up a total of 55 base hits in 36 innings of work. He struck out four and walked two before three relievers finished the three-hitter.

“You’ve got a lot of guys in this clubhouse that are mentally tough”.

In his most recent outing, Anderson pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three runs, striking out four and walking one in a 3-2 loss to the Marlins.

Manager Craig Counsell gave Carter the night off on Saturday, to give him a mental break.

Wiggling out of jams all night, the left-hander stranded the bases loaded in the third and retired the side in order just once.

Said manager Andy Green: “I don’t recall ever seeing two in a game”.

“I felt really good”, Shields said. “I think he was a little fastball dominant in the first inning”.

Entering play on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Padres sit in last place in the National League West division behind a mark of 16-20.

Guerra’s well-traveled route through professional ball includes stints in an independent league, along with time in the Mexican League in 2012 and in Italy in 2014. Sanchez was claimed off waivers on Wednesday from the Chicago White Sox.

“Everybody is coming at you with different ideas, saying try something new”, said Carter, who instead took extra batting practice during the series to refine his approach. Davies enjoyed the best start of his young career at San Diego on September 30 last season when he breezed through seven scoreless innings in a win.

Now owning a 4.93 ERA, Cashner has made seven starts thus far into the 2016 season while registering 28 strikeouts against 14 walks to accompany his 2-3 record. But Brett Wallace chased Davies with a drive to center in the seventh. Villar was also on the move, but was called out at third.

The Milwaukee batters brought in a solid 11 hits last game.
